About SAFFTYD
The Simon Agbotsu Foundation for the Young Disabled is a charity which aims to end disability discrimination in Ghana and support young people with disabilities so that we can make a real difference for their future
With a little love, compassion and hard work, we can change the world for the better. Our small but growing team, led by Felix A. Agbotsu has one goal in mind. We’re going to show young people that life with a disability is still a rewarding, fulfilling and happy life.
Who Is Simon Agbotsu?
Simon was our founder Felix’s father, and he was a true inspiration.Felix A. Agbotsu, a Ghanaian-born gunner in the British army sustained a life-changing disability in a road traffic accident on his way to a charity run.
After his life changed forever, his father Simon explained that with the right mindset, there is always a great life to be led.In Britain, Felix received proper rehabilitation and support, but when he returned to the country of his birth he realised that young disabled people in Ghana face much larger challenges.
No rehabilitation. No support. Rampant discrimination. All of these things made it all too common for young people with disabilities to endure a life begging on the streets.Felix realised that the advice of his father, Simon Agbotsu, still applied.
With the right mindset, there is always a great life to be led.In honour of Simon, Felix created the foundation and set out to give young people in Ghana the same support, rehabilitation and inspiration which allowed him to live a happy life.
After serving as one of the faces of the British legions poppy appeal, one of the biggest charities that support ex-service personnel in the United Kingdom, which has supported Felix himself on numerous occasions convinced or empowered him he could star a charity to support disabled people in Ghana.
